The Make The World Better Foundation benefits are an annual highlight of the Philly concert calendar, and this summer the show brings a breakout star of the Philly scene together with international indie faves riding high on a new release: Alex G and Alvvays will share the stage at The Dell Music Center on August 26th, with proceeds from the show going right back into the Philly community.
Launched by former Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin in 2013, Make The World Better make a mission out of rehabbing parks and rec centers around Philadelphia; beginning with an overhaul of Point Breeze’s Ralph Brooks Park in 2014 (thanks in part to a Union Transfer benefit starring Kurt Vile), the Make The World Better Foundation has gone on to rebuild Smith Playground in South Philly’s West Passyunk neighborhood, Waterloo Playground in West Kensington, and is in the midst of its biggest project to date, a complete overhaul of Vare Recreation Center in Gray’s Ferry. Following MTWB’s 2022 benefit starring Japanese Breakfast and Yo La Tengo, Barwin said the show brought in $250,000 for the foundation’s work.
Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, March 3rd at 10 a.m., more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page. In addition to this show, Alex G and Alvvays are on a summer tour together; check out those dates down below.
