Arhoolie Records began in 1960 with an album by Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb. The first issue was just 250 copies. The label grew to be a major source of blues, zydeco, cajun, and Mexican music, and offered recordings of hard-to-find music from a variety of ethnic groups. The force behind Arhoolie, Chris Strachwitz, died last week at age 91.
