Tank and the Bangas’ latest album Red Balloon is like scanning a radio dial – which is what frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball envisioned. From one song to the next, the lyrics cover the politics of dating, being Black in America, watching The Simpsons, and the January 6th riots. On an encore edition of the World Cafe, Tank shares her own memories of growing up listening to the radio, where she discovered touchstone artists like Lianne La Havas and Lauryn Hill.
