“Sense of Place: Richmond” – GWAR joins host Raina Douris

When you think of Richmond’s music scene, the first genre to come to mind probably isn’t heavy metal. But today, we’ll meet one of the city’s revered mainstay bands, GWAR…Known for their theatrical, fake-blood drenched shows and gory costumes, GWAR has been performing to adventurous fans since the ‘80s. World Cafe met them a couple months ago for a tour of their prop and costume headquarters, called The Slave Pit, and the former art school students share their thoughts on high art versus low art. Host Raina Douris takes us to the surprisingly cultured world of GWAR.
