The LA Weekly Watkins Family Hour Has Become An Album And A Tour
What time is it? Why it’s the Watkins Family Hour on the Cafe today- led by the brother and sister Sean and Sarah Watkins, founding members of the bluegrass band Nickel Creek. The group is named after an informal monthly appearance they make in Los Angeles that features a rotation of guests including Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne, members of Dawes and others. It’s a chance for people to play a cover they love or try out a new song. They were convinced to make an album of songs popular on the Family Hour and they stopped by the Cafe while on tour. Some of the regulars from the live show including Benmont Tench of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers are here today.
