KT Tunstall On World Cafe

  • Listen:
KT Tunstall on World Cafe With 2016's Kin, KT Tunstall began a trilogy of albums to examine spirit, body, and mind. She's just released the second instalment, called Wax, which explores the body, and has an appropriately visceral, electric guitar-driven sound. Today, KT performs a set from the new record, plus some early hits, including "Suddenly I See," live in her hometown of Edinburgh. Host Talia Schlanger joins her there for a conversation about Scotland's disproportionately massive musical output, and KT shares about the first time her brother, who is deaf, was able to hear her music with a cochlear implant. That's coming up, on the next World Cafe.
World Cafe visited Tunstall in Edinburgh - where the artist was born - the day after a sold-out show featuring songs from her new album, WAX.
According to KT Tunstall, the best Scottish chips have a lot in common with the best songwriters: they're "soggy and crunchy at the same time." World Cafe visited KT in Edinburgh - where the artist was born - the day after a sold-out show featuring songs from her new album, WAX. The record certainly passes the chip test: It has the bite and crunch of a big rock record and the tender heart of a singer-songwriter confessional.
