Listen to Mike Doughty’s Free At Noon performance at World Cafe Live
Via NPR Music:
With his off-kilter sense of humor and tendency to venture into realms of experimental rock and jazz, Mike Doughty had a few tricks up his sleeve when he took the stage for a performance from World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.
Doughty led the now-defunct, genre-defying ’90s band Soul Coughing before heading out on his own, beginning with his solo debut Skittish in 1996. His 2005 release, Haughty Melodic, contains the hit “Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well,” while songs such as “27 Jennifers” and “Busting Up a Starbucks” have helped Doughty gain recognition for his starkly emotional and often self-deprecating lyrics.
His latest album, Yes and Also Yes, follows closely on the heels of his electronic sampler, Dubious Luxury, which was released earlier this year.
