On Friday, October 23rd at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, WXPN held the first of a two night grand finale concert to close out the year-long Zydeco Crossroads project. The project, archived at the Zydeco Crossroads web site, was a celebration of Zydeco music with a series of live concerts, dances, the making of a documentary by director and producer Robert Mugge, radio specials, essays, and interviews and with artists.

The show kicked off with Ruben Moreno and Zydeco Re-Evolution opened for headlining performance by Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. Moreno and his band delivered a soulful, R&B take on zydeco, while Frank and his band merged the traditional sounds of zydeco with the more rocking sounds of contemporary music.

Below, listen to the full performances from both bands, and check out a photo gallery by The Key’s Matthew Shaver. Listen to Saturday’s performances with Corey Ledet, Wayne Singleton, and Rosie Ledet here.
