Turn up the cheer at a raucous holiday party for a good cause hosted by The Jawn
Every Wednesday since this summer, The Grape Room in Manayunk has been host to an awesome and all-inclusive open mic nights put together by the rock-funk-jam band The Jawn. If you have yet to check it out this Wednesday may be the time to change that.
The Jawn will be hosting an ugly sweater party chalk full of groovy music, live art, comedy and seasonally appropriate good times. As is the case with each Open Jawn event, the stage will be open to anyone willing to perform, but will be headlined by guys of the alternative funk four-piece Argonautic who will be playing jams off their new record — which you can listen to below. They also be joined by Sarena Beans Expression who will be live painting to the music.
Keeping with the season of ugly sweaters and good cheer, the proceeds for the event will go to one of the coolest charitable organizations in the Philly area, Beyond the Bars. The non-profit, created by former Family Vacation guitarist Matthew Kerr, is a program that aims to help incarcerated youth find inspiration through music. For some time now, Kerr has been working with the folks over at The Youth Arts and Self Empowerment Project (YASP) to help students who are incarcerated at the Philadelphia Industrial Correction Center in Northeast Philly.
Most people will have no shortage of holiday parties to attend in the coming weeks, but few will be as fun and and even less will benefit such a worthy cause as the Open Jawn holiday party this week at The Grape Room. Details for the even can be found here, make sure to stop by.
