Jenny Lewis and Serengeti are back with another collaboration, “Idiot”
Jenny Lewis has shared “Idiot,” another song from her ongoing collaboration with rapper Serengeti (Dave Cohn). After striking up a friendship, Lewis and Cohn used their newfound free time during the pandemic to record a series of tracks between their respective homes in Los Angeles and Chicago — and instead of feeling limited by the lack of a real studio, they’ve found inspiration in everyday things.
“These songs with Dave start with a late night feeling and access to — because of where we’re at right now in the world — whatever you have in your house that makes a sound,” Lewis says. “Or, I don’t have Pro Tools, so I use my phone, and I’ve got a little drum machine and a drum kit. Sometimes when I’m doing my vocals, Forensic Files is on in the background. That makes it onto the track because that’s just what’s happening.”
Jenny Lewis also reunited with an old collaborator recently — her former Rilo Kiley bandmate Blake Sennett. The two performed the Rkives deep cut “Let Me Back In” at last weekend’s Rock ‘N’ Relief virtual benefit, which raised money for Sean Penn’s CORE Response (Community Organized Relief Effort).
