Watch Amos Lee and a string section warm up for his orchestra concert - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

Amos Lee has shared three live performances accompanied by a string quartet and a keyboard player this June, giving fans a taste of what is to come at two of his live shows later this summer. The Philly-born singer-songwriter will be headlining The Mann’s TD Pavilion on July 20th alongside The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Lee’s performances were recently shared via his YouTube channel, recorded earlier this year at WXPN studios by our Will Loftus. These videos feature the 2016 deep cut “With You” off the album Spirit, “Violin” off 2011’s Mission Bell, and an unreleased track titled “Madison.” While previously performed for Minnesota radio station The Current on Dec. 4, 2021, this new video is the first studio recording of “Madison” to be released online.

These stripped-back arrangements are evocative and soothing, demonstrating the impact that orchestral performances of Lee’s music can have. Many songs from Lee’s 2022 album Dreamland leaned into more modern pop production (“Worry No More,” “See The Light,” “Gameshow”), and it should be intriguing to see how the singer blends his recent style with The Philadelphia Orchestra rich, traditional instrumentation. Considering the song choices from these new videos, Lee’s concert could feature an assortment of songs from his extensive catalog.

Along with his appearance at The Mann in Philadelphia, Lee will be performing with The Grand Rapids Symphony at Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI on July 26th before embarking on The My Ideal Tour in support of his 2022 Chet Baker tribute album.

WXPN Welcomes Amos Lee to The Mann on July 20th; tickets are available on the Concerts and Events page.
