Based in the cozy West Coast city of Ojai, California, but with roots going back a decade and a half in Philly DIY, indie rock singer-songwriter Rachel Gagliardi makes music that’s equal parts sun-kissed bliss and scrappy punk catharsis. Pouty is a project she launched while living in Philly, and it’s one she continues as a bi-coastal venture, with its debut full-length out this Friday on Get Better Records.

Forgot About Me was made, like her previous records, in Philly, with longtime Philly pals. Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo worked with Gagliardi to bring the record to life at their Fishtown space Jamtown Studio. Bernard and Baglivo join her in the live iteration of Pouty for the Key Studio Sessions, with Cat Park on bass and Jarrett Nathan on drums.

With echoes of Vivian Girls, Colleen Green, and a bit of Jenny Lewis, the band rips through songs about growth, change, connection, and memory — “Bridge Burner” is gentle and contemplative, “Salty” burns and rages, and “TV on TV” is a fun ode to finding a new life on the west coast.
