Sheer Mag – “Need to Feel Your Love” (Recorded Live for World Cafe)

A couple weeks ago, hometown rockers Sheer Mag, now signed to Jack White’s Third Man label, performed their new record Playing Favorites to a full Church basement. And our Josh Pelta-Heller was there to see it. Read the full concert review complete with photo gallery here, and enjoy this throw-back World Cafe session with Sheer Mag from six years ago.

Fontaines D.C. – World Cafe At Home Session

XPN’s Emma Zoe Polyak and Megan Matuzak covered Fontaines D.C.’s headlining NON-COMM set earlier this month. And if you weren’t there, you won’t believe that NON-COMM saw its first mosh pit in the event’s history. But you can surely read about it here. And watch Fontaines give a pandemic-era performance for World Cafe made up of songs from their record A Hero’s Death below.

Arlo Parks – “Purple Phase” & “Devotion” (NON-COMM 2023)

Speaking of NON-COMM, our next two features are former NON-COMM favorites. The first of which is London-based songwriter Arlo Parks, who was in Philly again this past April. The Mercury Prize winner sold out Union Transfer, and you know XPN was there. Read the coverage here, and watch two songs from Parks’ NON-COMM set below.

Madison Cunningham -“Pin It Down” (NON-COMM 2022)

Also in April, XPN’s Danielle Ciampaglia covered Madison Cunningham play Ardmore Music Hall. The rising star played upstairs at World Cafe Live for NON-COMM a couple years ago. Since then, she’s toured with Andrew Bird, played the Newport Folk Festival, and won Best Folk Album at the Grammys for Revealer. This performance, therefore, is a nice reminder you can find artists here at XPN before they skyrocket to fame.

Laufey: The World Cafe Interview

Lastly, we also covered Laufey’s performance at The Met a couple weeks ago. The top-streaming jazz artist, who’s goal is to bring the genre back to Gen Z, also gave a World Cafe interview with Raina Douris late last year. Read all about her Philly date here, and listen to the interview below.
