Pixies are back with new music! “You’re So Impatient” and “Que Sera Sera” mark the band’s first release this year and their first recording with bassist Emma Richardson.
Starting out with a kick, “You’re So Impatient” is a punk-infused track with guitar licks and lots of driving beats. It’s a brief song, lasting only two minutes, but it’s packed with high energy. “‘You’re So Impatient’ is a slightly comedic suburban culture moment,” shared frontman Black Francis about the song in a press statement. “There’s this guy; there’s this gal; there’s this tug-of-love dynamic going on. But the backdrop is the mall. And while the mall is crass, it’s also a very zombie, rock’n’roll horror movie setting.” The double A-side takes “horror movie setting” more literally with the next song, “Que Sera Sera.” An eerie and dark rendition of Doris Day’s 1950 hit “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be),” the cover was originally recorded for the TV series Form.
Richardson, who you may know from Band of Skulls, is the band’s newest addition, joining back in March after Pixies announced that Paz Lenchantin left the band via Instagram. Richardson follows in the footsteps of notable former band members Kim Deal, Kim Shattuck, and Lenchantin.
Fans will get the chance to see the band’s new lineup in the following months, as Pixies enter a busy summer full of touring. They started their North American tour last week and will play in Philly at The Mann on June 12. More information can be found at WXPN’s concert calendar.
