Tune in to a mini-concert with Friko

Tune in to a mini-concert with Friko

Friko is a band from Chicago, and in a recent interview with Chicago station WBEZ, they said they owe “everything to the Chicago scene” and their experience coming up in it.

But like any band trying to make a go of it, Friko has also spent a lot of time away from home out on the road touring. Those experiences became a major source of inspiration for their latest album, Something Worth Waiting For, produced by John Congleton.

It’s the follow-up to their debut, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, which not only put Friko on the map here in the U.S., but also found an audience half a world away in Japan, eventually taking the band to Asia for shows.

You may have first heard Friko here on World Cafe in 2023, when we featured them as part of our Sense of Place: Chicago series. They’ve traveled a long way since then, literally and creatively, and you can hear some of that experience in today’s live set.

This episode of World Cafe was produced by Will Loftus. The web story was created by Miguel Perez. Our engineer is Chris Williams. Our programming and booking coordinator is Chelsea Johnson and our senior producer is Kimberly Junod.
