Joining us for this Indie Rock Hit Parade interview is a versatile multi-instrumentalist who channels limitless creativity into a myriad of projects. As a member of Rubblebucket, the group he co-founded with Kalmia Traver, Alex Toth last visited our studios in late 2018. The day after that World Cafe session was recorded, Toth released one of the very first songs from his endeavor, Tōth.

Earlier this year, Tōth released And the Voice Said, his third full-length. To call the record a “solo album” is a bit of a misnomer, as producer Caroline Rose, guest vocalist Kimbra, and journeyman guitarist Will Graefe all made significant contributions. Further pushing the boundaries of his self-described ‘song mechanic’ skills, Toth recently unveiled a new live version of the standout track “Easy,” backed by the 85-person Brooklyn Choir Project

Showing no signs of slowing down, Tōth even more recently dispatched an archive of 111 personalized songs written to celebrate the birthdays of friends, family members, and other acquaintances.

Before his return to Johnny Brenda’s, Alex returned to the XPN studios to talk about these releases (and more!) with Indie Rock Hit Parade host Eric Schuman.
