Metric on their latest album, ‘Romanticize The Dive”
Maybe you’ve heard the term “indie sleaze.” It refers to the fashion and aesthetic of the early 2000s indie rock scene. Think shiny leggings, leather jackets, colorful T-shirts, swoopy haircuts, bangs and messy makeup.
If that’s still not ringing a bell, check out the music video for Metric’s “Victim of Luck,” the lead single from their new album, Romanticize the Dive. It’s made up of footage from the band’s early days, when they were coming up during the height of the indie sleaze era — though nobody called it that back then, they say.
Today, Metric singer Emily Haines and guitarist Jimmy Shaw talk about reconnecting with some of the magic of their early years on Romanticize the Dive. We also get into indie sleaze nostalgia and what the band realized they’d been missing after hitting the road for a recent tour with Broken Social Scene and Stars.
Plus, Metric performs a stripped-down set for World Cafe.
