Kurt Vile plays ’99 BPM’ on the ‘Tonight Show’
Well, well, well, if it isn’t our friend Kurt Vile making a late night talk show appearance.
Vile and the Violators stopped by 30 Rock to perform a song from his new hit album, Philadelphia’s been good to me, Monday night on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Watch “99 BPM” live below:
The performance was filled with effortless lead guitar licks and riffs from Vile, who delivered them with ease and nonchalance on top of his laid-back vocals.
Critics and fans have heaped praise on the album since its late May release, with Pitchfork giving it a 7.5 and Paste calling it “as quintessential as they come.”
Being Philly through and through, he debuted the album’s lead single, “Chance To Bleed,” live on our airwaves with Mike Vasilikos back in early April. Watch the locally shot video for the song here.
In July, he came by WXPN for an interview with World Cafe host Raina Douris, and also performed some songs. Not long after, he headlined the second night of Connor Barwin’s Make The World Better Foundation concerts, with Twisted Teens and Philly’s own shoegazers They Are Gutting A Body Of Water sharing the bill.
He and his band Wednesday will embark on an 18-date tour, which kicks off in Buffalo and wraps up in Baltimore.
