The Flying Vees release crushing new song on Election Day
“Monsters” covers very weighty topics, including sexual assault, corruption, justice, and more. Listen to it here.
As voters head to the polls to cast ballots in the midterm election Tuesday, The Flying Vees dropped a new politically charged song that takes aim at monsters, and not the type that live under beds and in fairy tales.
“Monsters” made its debut at this year’s XPoNential Music Festival after the group—comprising Hannah Taylor, Shannon Vasile, Brechyn Chace, Caitlin Ramsey—performed their 24 Hour Song Challenge winning tune, “Workman’s Song #1.”
Now, it’s gotten a proper release on Election Day. Intentionally so, too.
“This is a really, really heavy one, but it needs to be said often, and loud,” the group said on social media. “Our hope is for this to resonate with as many folks as possible. Our hope is for people to hear this and feel less alone. We aren’t angry enough. Happy Election Day.”
Its verses tell harrowing tales of sexual abuse at the hands of said monsters, corruption, grooming, and forced prostitution.
“These monsters live in mansions and they fly on private planes, and they’re never brought to justice, and we never learn their names,” the four sing in the chorus.
However, anyone familiar with The Flying Vees knows they are always up for a fight.
“But if a monster ever wants my daughter for a slave, I swear to god with my own hands I’d lay him in his grave.”
The song ends on a note of hope and resiliency again the monsters. We won’t spoil it for you though: listen for yourself below.
The track was written by Vasile and features Krista Umile on cello and Elliot Garland on bass. It was recorded at MilkBoy and engineered by Tommy Joyner and Andrew Torre, with Joyner handling mixing and mastering.
