Carly Rae Jepsen pulls out all the stops on ‘Day and Night’
Being a pop star is a full-time job. There’s a lot of pressure to keep writing, recording and performing over and over again. And for nearly 20 years, it’s been pretty much the only thing Carly Rae Jepsen has had time to think about, or even really let herself think about.
Today, Jepsen joins World Cafe to talk about her new album, Day and Night, which grew out of a period when she finally allowed herself to slow down and imagine a life outside her music career — one that might include marriage and parenthood, two things she’s recently embraced.
She also talks about the two distinct sides of Day and Night, a double album split between the acoustic-leaning, folkier “Day” side and the darker, synth-driven “Night” side.
