Today, we’re catching up with Courtney Barnett. The Aussie-turned-Angeleno has a new album called Creature of Habit.

It’s her first album with lyrics in five years, and that’s exciting because Barnett is one of indie rock’s most distinctive songwriters, bringing stream-of-consciousness observations and incisive insights to her music.

Barnett talks about why she moved to Los Angeles, how the change informed the new album, and how a chance encounter with a praying mantis let her know she was on the right track.

Plus, Barnett performs live in the studio.
