Low Cut Connie on his latest album, ‘Livin in the USA’

Low Cut Connie on his latest album, ‘Livin in the USA’
Low Cut Connie

Low Cut Connie is, and always has been, a party. Watching Adam Weiner and his band gallivant across stages with swagger and sweat, you can’t help but get swept up in the fun.

Still, Weiner has never been afraid to tackle tougher subjects in his music. You just had to pay attention while you were partying in the Connie Club, you know?

After deciding to cancel a show at the Kennedy Center — and the controversy that followed — Weiner found himself confronting a bigger question: What does it mean to be a rock and roll party band while also being a public figure with a responsibility to speak out about social issues?

The answer, at least in part, is Low Cut Connie’s new album, Livin in the USA.

Today, Weiner joins talks about making the record the old-fashioned way, by recording live in the room on 1-inch tape, just like the early days of rock and roll.

He also talks about his decision to cancel that Kennedy Center show. Plus, you’ll hear the song Weiner’s friends told him “may be the stupidest song” he’s ever written.
