MT Jones plays a soulful Free At Noon

Free At Noon regulars and a smattering of new faces were treated to an especially soulful performance today from Liverpool songwriter MT Jones. The frontman and his band of bass, drums, and backing vocalists broke a short hiatus from touring the world to stop at World Stage, and to be on XPN’s airwaves.

Following the release of his debut record Joy back in March, MT Jones has been busy. The newcomer has made radio appearances around the US, including one on our World Cafe, and performed at a handful of festivals including Nashville’s Americanafest. 

Judging by his performance today, it’s clear that MT Jones is a natural performer. He’s charming and smooth, and maintains a retro feel in his songwriting and personal styling. XPN listeners were bound to love his music; think, a modern take on 60s and 70s soul and motown a la Thee Sacred Souls. Adding to MT Jones’ ambitious, big-band sound today was an anchoring rhythm section and pillowy backing harmonies.
