Todd Rundgren made a name for himself as an experimental musician and producer — stretching pop, rock, soul and electronic music into fascinating new shapes. But before Rundgren became an icon, he was just a kid living in the suburbs of Philly.

Today, For Sense of Place: Philadelphia, we’re getting a look into Rundgren’s early years, including the music he grew up with, the first bands he played in and his path to becoming a beloved solo artist and endlessly inventive producer.

Plus, what he was planning on doing if the music thing didn’t work out. He’d eventually find his way back to that backup profession.
