Tyler Asay of The Tisburys is loving indie rock for this week’s Ears We Trust
Back in June 2025, we named local rock outfit The Tisburys our Artist To Watch about a month after their fourth album, A Still Life Revisited, dropped to much fanfare.
So for this week’s Ears We Trust, founder and frontman Tyler Asay chimed in ahead of the band performing at Philly Folk Fest over the weekend.

Bramwell — “Problems“
The song of the summer 2026 is actually “Problems” by Bramwell, a song that released last April. My pick for “the band that everyone will be talking about this time next year.” A little Guided By Voices, a little Replacements, power pop goodness. I just saw they are opening up for The Tubs (whose new album I am also very excited for) and I’m sure more people will start catching on.
The Strokes — “Lonely In The Future”
Everyone complaining about the “autotune” on the new Strokes album is a fake fan. I’ll say it! The whole record is full of odd yet fun choices and is the most interesting and consistent album they’ve made since Room On Fire. The Strokes were my first favorite band so I will love anything they do, but the autotune on Reality Awaits thematically portrays the terrible future we are barreling towards. I guess people are afraid of their own reflections.
Planette Automatic — “Parkin Meter”
Planette Automatic is my favorite Philly band at the moment! Their new album, Blue Fascination, just released last week and I’m excited people will get to hear it! Overflowing with creativity and hooks but also bowls you over with KR’s lyrics. Honored to be friends with this band. This album was recorded by our drummer’s brother, Justin Nazario, and was mixed by Nick Krill, who we start working on the next Tisburys album with this weekend.
Aimee Mann — “That’s Just What You Are”
Speaking of the next Tisburys album, this song is high up on the inspiration playlist. Perfect song. I’m often realizing songs I love are produced by Jon Brion: “Our Love” by Rhett Miller, “The Underdog” by Spoon, a ton of Aimee Mann’s songs (the film club I’m in recently watched Magnolia). The older I get, the more I’m just chasing Beatles-esque production sounds. I’m hoping we can capture that on our next album.
Wilco — “Pot Kettle Black”
I know, shocker; Tyler picked a Wilco song. Well, I’m currently organizing a 25th Anniversary Tribute Show to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot so I’ve been learning and playing along to these songs, and “Pot Kettle Black” is the one that I keep coming back to. I’ve always loved this song, but it’s both so catchy and secretly complex (like all of the best Wilco songs). Thursday, Sept. 17 at Ardmore Music Hall, tickets on sale now!
