Friday: Owen Stewart at Abington Art Center
A WXPN favorite, Owen Stewart, will be in Abington with fellow Philly rockers Speeding Arrow for a free rescheduled show after dangerous heat pushed back the July 16 performance. What better way to spend a Friday night than under the stars with some old fashioned rock and roll, food trucks, libations, and dancing?
Saturday: Steve Forbert at Bryn Mawr Gazebo
Another WXPN fav is playing in the ‘burbs this weekend. Prolific Americana singer-songwriter Steve Forbert is heading to the Main Line to perform as part of the Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts series. He’s being supported by banjo player Mark Schultz and his band, the Wayne Rangers.
Sunday: Hilary Duff at TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann
Attention millennials and Laguna Beach fans: Hillary Duff is back at it (musically) with a new album, luck… or something, and is coming to Philly to close out the weekend. La Roux and Jade LeMac will open for the former Disney star, who Time Magazine named one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Monday: Chance Peña at Union Transfer
After appearing on The Voice more than 10 years ago at just 15 years old, Chance Peña now touts more than 7 million monthly Spotify listeners and 356,000 followers on Instagram. He’s touring his latest album, When I Change My Mind I Don’t Mean It, and will be supported by Hans Williams at UT.
Tuesday: NMB at Kewsick Theatre
Prog rock supergroup The Neal Morse Band will be shredding it up in the suburbs. Consisting of Lehigh Valley resident and Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse, Randy George, Bill Hubauer and Eric Gillette, the band dropped their new album, L.I.F.T., in February and are out supporting the release.
Wednesday: Dogstar at Union Transfer
Hollywood sweetheart Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar are heading back to Philly for a gig at Union Transfer after their latest album, All In Now, came out in late May. New York-by-way-of-London alt rock outfit The Backfires, whose second album drops Aug. 7, are sharing the bill. Most triumphant!
Thursday: Mannequin Pussy at Lincoln Financial Field
Ok, the beloved Philly punk rockers aren’t headlining this show, but we’re so proud of them we’re acting like they are. Mannequin Pussy is opening for Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age on the massive “Take Cover Tour” at the Linc Thursday. We love to see local talent getting their flowers, don’t we, folks?
