Standout moments from XPoNential Music Festival 2026

Another XPoNential Music Festival is in the books, and we here at WXPN are eternally grateful to have welcomed so many music lovers and public media supporters come out for a weekend of tunes from incredible international, national, and Philly-area artists in Wiggins Park on the Camden Waterfront.

While the whole weekend was unforgettable, we’re looking back at some highlights from this year’s fest. You can see the full weekend recap here, but we invite you relive some of our favorite moments below.

Friday night lights

During The Budos Band’s incredibly groovy and heady Friday night set, fireworks exploded over the Delaware River. They were launched as part of the 2026 Cooper Red Hot Gala, which is unaffiliated with the festival but a wonderful surprise, nonetheless. The dazzling display was a truly magical addition to the first night of music, setting the tone for what shaped up to be a weekend of immaculate vibes and even better music.

Portugal. The Kids

Saturday headliner Portugal. The Man burst onto the stage with a wall of heavy rock and roll. But just before they hit the stage, our own intrepid host Mike Vasilikos brought a special guest on stage to introduce the band. Hailing from Long Island much like Vasilikos himself, 7-year-old Ford is the self-professed world’s biggest PTM fan. Vasilikos brought Ford on stage to welcome the band to the River Stage, and the kid nailed it. To make their end of their set even more memorable, frontman John Gourley invited more kids in the crowd to the stage for an impromptu dance party to the band’s biggest hit, “Feel It Still.”

St. Paul’s ascension

St. Paul and The Broken Bones brought their soul jams to the River Stage Saturday afternoon. At the end of their dance-inducing set, St. Paul (real name Paul Janeway) made his was out into the crowd with a ladder. With the help of some crew members, Janeway ascended the ladder and towered above the crowd like a preacher, but instead of the gospels he was proselytizing the glory of music and community. Not to mention he was adorned in a sequined gold robe with matching golden, spiked shoes.

Devon Gilfillian debuts his Philly Anthem

Since July, we’ve been rolling out commissioned songs from Philly-area artists for our Philly Anthems project. On Friday, Delaware County native rocker Devon Gilfillian debuted his Philly Anthems composition live on stage. “Ways To Go” was a slight departure from the tone of his set, which was largely a rock ‘n’ roll throw down. The song reflects on how, as a nation, we must overcome forces that aim to divide us and unite for equality and justice for all. The Flying Vees’ perform their 24 Hour Song Challenge-winning tune

The winners of our 24 Hour Song Challenge, The Flying Vees, made their XPoNential Music Festival debut Saturday morning. The quartet—comprised of Hannah Taylor, Shannon Vasile, Brechyn Chace, Caitlin Ramsey—delivered a set of songs fulled masterfully constructed vocal harmonies. The standout song was their winning composition, “Workman’s Song #1.” In it, the Vees sing of working people in America often deferring their experiences of freedom because they have to work so hard just to get by.

Langhorne Slim embraces the hometown crowd

Local Americana star Langhorne Slim (who is actually from Langhorne, Bucks County) put on a hell of a show on the Marina Stage Sunday. The multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter was feeling the hometown love so much that he left the stage and played to the crowd while in the crowd. And that’s not to mention the Eagles narrowly defeated the Titans during his set, creating a true synergistic moment of Philly music and sports pride.

Little Feat proves they’ve still got it nearly 60 years on

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” This witticism, often attributed to Mark Twain despite no proof the sardonic author ever wrote or uttered the words, was on full display when classic rock icons Little Feat closed out this year’s festival while out on their farewell tour. Formed in 1969, Little Feat in 2026 can still rock out with the best of them. Fiery guitar solos, thumping percussion, multiple lead vocalists, organ riffs dripping with modulation, and more showed the crowd that—despite their decades of experience—Little Feat hasn’t lost a step. If only they weren’t hanging up their hats.

Covers, covers, covers, and more covers

Last year’s 885 Countdown featured the best cover songs of all time. And in a bit of kismet, covers found their way into several set lists at this year’s XPoNential Music Festival. Grace Gardner covered Lady A’s “Need You Now,” Cyril Neville and his band paid tribute to The Grateful Dead but threw in a cover of Steve Miller’s “Fly Like An Eagle,” S.G. Goodman covered “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers, Sierra Hull played a cover of “Mad World” by Tears for Fears, Mackenzie Johnson performed her take on ELO’s “Strange Magic,” and Zoe Lemon did a cover of “You Can Feel It” by Young Gun Silver Fox. We love to see artists putting their own spin on songs they love, don’t we folks?

Whether you’re a longtime WXPN member or someone who had never heard of the station before coming to the festival, you were a highlight of this year’s event. Music lovers of all ages and walks of life flocked to the Camden Waterfront to see the slate of artists dish out their music. We couldn’t offer the festival, nor all the on-air programming you know and love, without you. Thanks to everyone for showing up, singing along, making new memories, and supporting independent public radio—you made the 2026 XPoNential Music Festival all the better!
