“Bummergaze” rockers Puppy Angst, led by DIY scene mainstay Alyssa Milman, shared a new single and music video for “Perpetual” this week. It will be on Scorpio Season, the band’s new LP, out on October 24th with a show at Kung Fu Necktie just a couple days before then, on the 22nd.
“Perpetual” is buzzing and hazy, like being cut off from oxygen for too long. Its lyrics describe being stuck in a rut, going through the motions of life, and feeling disconnected from other people. The lasting impression of “Perpetual” is one of profound loneliness, and judging by the song’s title, the feeling has yet to dissipate.
Despite lyrical images of being stuck in a rut, Milman is on a creative streak. (Maybe the lesson is to interpret songs more abstractly, which is hard when they clearly sound like cries for help.) They directed and designed the charming “Perpetual” music video, plus are filling the band’s schedule with gigs including next month’s KFN show with Blushing, Lucid Express, and Queasy.
