Philadelphia-based experimental hip-hop group ABBATIA has released a thrilling music video for their track “System Failure,” a song from their EP Red Room featuring Philly vocalist Dev Lemons. Released last November, Red Room is a remarkable project, showcasing the immense range, individuality, and unique sound that this group has. They have been making music together for years — and have been friends even longer — and this is easily shown in their uncanny chemistry with one another.

The video is an eccentric amalgamation of advanced graphics, resembling clips from video games. It never gets boring, as viewers are taken on a journey, watching the main character of the video be unwillingly transported from one hellish landscape to the next. It is impossible to keep your eyes off the screen, waiting in anticipation to see what will come. “System Failure,” is played throughout the video, and the combination of the heavy vocals matched with the intense electronic drums perfectly relay the energy of the music video.

This music video is just a small eye-opener to the immense creativity that this band has to offer. Their sound and visuals are phenomenal, unlike anything that has ever been seen before, and it’s on full display in the Key Studio Session the band recorded for the WXPN Local show. Listen for their performance on the show tonight, a perfect fit for Halloween — tune in between 8 and 10 p.m. at 88.5 FM in Philly and streaming live at XPN.org — and look for live videos from the session later this week. It will be interesting to see how Abbatia’s sound and visuals evolve as they gain more traction, but they are certainly a group to pay attention to; check out their EP Red Room below, along with the brand new video for their song “System Failure”.
