Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade session is a trio with a coincidental connection to some previous IRHP guests. Formed in 2011 by three veterans of the Atlanta indie scene, OMNI is guitarist Frankie Broyles, bassist Philip Frobos, and drummer Chris Yonker. Their jittery take on post-punk has grown many creative branches since their minimalist debut, 2016’s Deluxe. The group’s fourth album, Souvenir, was released earlier this year and is their second release on the venerable Sub Pop label.

OMNI’s new songs swerve against start-stop rhythms and precise arrangements, charging through measure-long diversions into winking country rambles and fuzzed-out noise. Joining OMNI on the album’s standout single “Plastic Pyramid” is Izzy Glaudini, keyboardist for Los Angeles darkwave trio Automatic. The two groups were on tour together in late 2022 when Automatic visited our studio. A few weeks after the release of Souvenir, OMNI stopped by for their own IRHP session.

OMNI’s IRHP performance includes a rendition of “Plastic Pyramid” with Yonker filling in for Glaudini’s counterpoint vocal, and a spirited take of the album’s closing epic, “Compliment.”

The band just announced an extensive summer tour of the West Coast, so check them out and tell them IRHP sent you.
