Ex-BrooklynVegan editors confirm staff layoffs

One week after reports claimed layoffs impacted beloved music publication BrooklynVegan, the outlet’s now-former editors have confirmed layoffs.

Former BrooklynVegan Senior Editor Andrew Sacher on social media Tuesday said he and “almost all” of the publication’s staff had been laid off. Additionally, fellow BrooklynVegan Senior Editor Bill Pearis said his tenure at the publication “came to an abrupt end last week when I was laid off along with most of the BV staff.” Amanda Hatfield—former BrooklynVegan Editor, Photo Editor, and Social Media Manager—on the same day posted that her time at the outlet “has come to an end” after about 15 years.

Pitchfork reported layoffs not only at BrooklynVegan, but also Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine. However, those layoffs have not been confirmed, but Pearis in his post said those three outlets also suffered layoffs.

Missing Piece Group General Manager Joe Sivick told WXPN that his team was made aware of layoffs at BrooklynVegan the afternoon of Aug. 4. The following day, Sivick said he heard of layoffs at Alt Press and Goldmine, as well.

Jacob Daneman of Pitch Perfect PR on X last week said BrooklynVegan had been “gutted” and that “everyone” was let go from the publication.

“RIP Brooklyn Vegan,” Daneman said online. “Absolutely bewildering. Thinking of all the great people there and the unparalleled music coverage they’ve done over the years. Utterly unceremonious and moronic actions by Veeps.”

Veeps, now owned by Live Nation after being founded by Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden in 2018, is the parent company for all four music publications.
