The War On Drugs just released their first new song in 4 years

2022 feels like 10 years ago, doesn’t it? If not for the countless major events we’ve all witnessed and endured, but also for the lack of new music from one of Philadelphia’s most beloved indie rock outfits.
The War On Drugs‘ last album was I Don’t Live Here Anymore, which received high praise from the music community and later got a killer deluxe box set. Now, the band is likely gearing up for a new record and has dropped their first new song in four years.
“Who’s That” dropped at midnight, and you can listen to it below:
The new track is also available on all major streaming platforms.
Written and produced by band leader Adam Granduciel at his Burbank studio compound, the song progressively swells, growing bigger with each listen. Bolstered by Anthony LaMarca’s drums, Dave Hartley’s bass and a swarm of his own electric guitars and keyboards, Granduciel muses: “Did I blow it? / Did it just explode? / There’s a lion hanging from my teeth / I can taste it but I can’t get close,” before reflecting, “It’s only my depression, baby.”
“‘Who’s That’ was written in 10 minutes somewhere between first coffee and school drop-off,” Granduciel said. “It’s a song about trying to love yourself despite things we can’t always control, like the anxiety, depression, and self-doubt that may stand in the way of living the life we truly desire.”
