Dr. Dorothy Williams joins host Raina Douris

The Montreal International Jazz Festival may be the biggest and most diverse celebration of the genre in the world. But how did Montreal first become known for jazz? On the World Cafe, Dr. Dorothy Williams, who grew up in the heart of Montreal’s English-speaking Black community, takes you through the early days as prohibition helped make Montreal a party town, an exception to the rule, a place where people could drink and jazz flourished.
