Mustafa joins host Raina Douris

Mustafa describes his music as “Inner City Folk” – When Smoke Rises is his new album, and it tells the stories of the losses he dealt with growing up in Toronto’s Regent Park housing project. Being raised in a conservative Muslim family, he wasn’t exposed to a lot of music until a vocal teacher introduced him to Prince and Joni Mitchell. On the next World Cafe, Mustafa joins host Raina Douris to share how that exposure helped him find his own voice, preserve the stories of his community, and go on to write for artists like The Weeknd and The Jonas Brothers. Plus, Mustafa performs music from the new record live.
