Goth rock, jazz-metal fusion, and experimental guitar are just a few of the eclectic genres being showcased at performances in the area over the coming week.

Friday: Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration with The Philly Pops at TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann
The Mann is hosting a night of The Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia’s music, curated by the guitarist’s family. Joining The Philly Pops are Jerry Garcia Band organist Melvin Seals and vocalist Jacklyn LaBranch, as well as a slew of other musicians in the Dead’s extended family.
Saturday: Sovei at Johnny Brenda’s
Philly’s own Sovei is celebrating the release of their first EP, Other, with a show at Johnny Brenda’s. They’ll be joined by fellow local musicians Moustapha Noumbissi and LARS. Read our 2024 interview with Sovei here.
Sunday: Titan to Tachyons
Jazz-metal fusion band Titan to Tachyons are bringing their heavy, groovy, syncopated, atonal, and heady experimental hybrid tunes to Solar Myth to bring the weekend to a close. According to the band, their music “depicts the realms of Surrealism and science-fiction.” Check them out here.
Monday: Arlo Parks at Union Transfer
WXPN favorite Arlo Parks is touring her latest album, Ambiguous Desire, and is coming back to Philly just a handful of months after performing at our NON-COMMvention in May. She’s supported by Baird at the UT show. Be sure to listen to her recent World Cafe interview with Raina Douris.
Tuesday: Tim Motzer at Sellersville Theater
Tim Motzer isn’t just a guitar player. The Philly artist uses the instrument unlike any other guitarist, creating soundscapes with looping effects, violin bows, and various electronic elements. His live show is bolstered by his own large-scale paintings, giving performances an even deeper sense of audience immersion.
Wednesday: Shinyribs at Sellersville Theater
Nine-piece, Austin-based “swamp funk” band Shinyribs is looking to give you a midweek pickup with a show at Sellersville Theater, alongside fellow Texas singer-songwriter Scott Strickland. The band plays their original tunes, but is also known for its eclectic mix of cover songs.
Thursday: Nyx Division at Cousin Danny’s
