Listen to the energetic new single from local bluegrass group Man About A Horse
Known for their high energy originals and twangy takes on hits by Radiohead and the like, local bluegrass quartet Man About A Horse just released the first single from their upcoming EP: a foot-tapping track titled “Take My Heart.”
The song has all of the energy expected from the band, which has been busy for the past few months. The group held a summer residency at Spruce Street Harbor Park, a main stage slot at South Street Bloktoberfest and an opening-night appearance at The Key’s Fireside Sessions at the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest (not to mention various shows scattered in and around the city).
“We were only able to make this EP because of all the people that came out to a show or put a few bucks in our banjo case this past year,” said lead vocalist and guitarist Roy Matthews. “Americana and bluegrass music are alive and well in Philadelphia–and this is proof.”
They recently played a sold-out night of bluegrass at Bourban & Branch in January, alongside The Jersey Corn Pickers and The White Cheddar Boys. This Sunday, they’ll grace the 42nd Ocean County Bluegrass Festival in Waretown, N.J.
The upcoming four-track EP was recorded in December at Philadelphia’s Sine Studios, and is scheduled for release on March 3.
“So much passion and enjoyment went into making this record,” said bassist Matt Thomas. “We hope that comes through, and that our music will help even more people connect with American roots music.”
