The Rentiers release their homage to “The Early 2000’s”
A collection of some of the best punk-rockers on the east coast led by Philly vet Joel Tannenbaum is most definitely something we are keeping our eye on here at The Key. The Rentiers – made up of Mikey Erg on drums (The Ergs!, The Dopamines, etc.), vocalist Anika Pyle of Chumped, and Tyler Pursel of Goddamnit – put out their debut EP Here Is A List Of Things That Exist last March and give us a possible hint of things to come with the single, “The Early 2000’s” released this week via Brooklyn Vegan.
Tennenbaum’s songwriting style is full of clever quips covering everything from suspicion of early 2000’s “quote-unquote, indie stuff” to the rise of dancepunk but not before a spacey, synthed-out intro like nothing we have heard from the collective. You can listen to “The Early 2000’s” here and listen to the band’s debut EP below.
