Listen to a new song by The Jayhawks, “Quiet Corners and Empty Spaces”
Minneapolis Americana rockers The Jayhawks return with a new album, Paging Mr. Proust, coming out on April 29 on Sham/Thirty Tigers. The album features the long-time core of the Jayhawks: Gary Louris (lead vox/guitars), Marc Perlman (bass), Tim O’Reagan (drums/vox), and Karen Grotberg (keyboards/vox). Paging Mr. Proust was co-produced by Louris, REM’s Peter Buck and Tucker Martine.
Last Fall, when David Dye and World Cafe visited Minneapolis for a Sense of Place, David caught up with the band for an interview and session at Humans Win Studio in Minneapolis. During the session they played some old favorites and premiered several new songs including “Quiet Corners and Empty Spaces.”
The band’s last album, Mockingbird Time, was in 2011. The album featured Mark Olson, one of the co-founding members of the band, however is not on the forthcoming new release.
The new “Quiet Corners and Empty Spaces” is an immediate classic by The Jayhawks that showcases their timeless melodies and harmonies. Below, watch the band perform the song from their World Cafe session, and listen to the new studio version of the song. The band will be performing live at WXPN’s Non-COMMvention in May.
