Mannequin Pussy lends their music to HBO miniseries Mare of Easttown
Mannequin Pussy‘s social media has been abuzz with excitement this week over their music being featured in HBO’s new miniseries, Mare of Easttown.
Filmed around Delaware County and Philly, the show itself is set in a fictionalized version of Chester County where Mare Sheehan, a detective played by Kate Winslet, balances the investigation of a murder and turmoil it brings to her life. Siobhan Sheehan, the daughter of Mare portrayed by actress Angourie Rice, performs as the frontperson of a fictional band. Rice re-recorded several songs by Mannequin Pussy, drawing on the real talent of the region for the show.
As explained in a recent Facebook post, Mannequin Pussy was approached nearly a year ago about their music being used for the show. They were also asked to come in and coach Rice and the rest of her fictional group on how to be a band, but a busy tour schedule meant that Japanese Breakfast was brought in to cover that half of the process.
Three songs are confirmed to be used in Mare of Easttown including “Who You Are” and “In Love Again” from their 2019 album Patience, as well as “Control” from their upcoming EP. The first episode contained Rice’s performance of “Who You Are,” but it is unknown what episodes will contain the other Mannequin Pussy songs.
The first episode of Mare of Easttown is available on HBO Max; subsequent installments of the seven-episode series will air there every Sunday. Mannequin Pussy’s upcoming album, Perfect, is due out May 21. Check out its first single, “Control,” below and head over to Bandcamp to pre-order the album.
