Mattiel channels hopeful springtime energy on new single “Those Words”

Mattiel is back with a double single, “Those Words” / “Freedom Feels.” The Atlanta-based duo of vocalist/songwriter Mattiel Brown and guitarist/producer Jonah Swilley was an XPN Artist to Watch in 2019, when they released their last LP Satis Factory.

“It’s really just about choosing who to give your energy to,” Brown says of the relatable new single, “Those Words.” “If someone isn’t treating you with respect or crosses your boundaries, you don’t owe them anything. It’s an especially good reminder if you’re a person who tends to try to please everyone. Women are taught to do this from a very young age. It’s just not possible to make everyone happy, so you might as well sing and dance those cares away.”

“Those Words” is accompanied by a video that was directed, produced and edited by Brown. Shot just last month, it channels the new hopeful energy we’re feeling this spring.
