Janelle Monae is here to help us out of the winter slump with her latest single “Float.” It’s a triumphant trap anthem fenestrated by the horns of Egypt 80. “I don’t step, I don’t walk, I don’t dance, I just float,” she sings. The song was produced by Nana Kwabena, Nate “Rocket” Wonder, and Sensei Bueno.
There’s no mention yet of whether “Float” stands alone or is part of a forthcoming studio album, which would be her first since 2018’s Dirty Computer. Monae has been busy acting as well as making music; most recently she was in Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: a Knives Out Mystery and has written original music for Netflix and Amazon series.
