For the past several years, Re-Mus has been most recognizable as the sideman, the hype person, the soaring falsetto in the mix of The Funkitorium, as apt to break out into a killer Earth, Wind, and Fire cover as he is to cheer on frontman Arthur Thomas and his fellow bandmates.
This spring, the roles are reversed. Re-Mus released his latest solo EP U.S.E. (Universal Soul Experiment), which he discussed earlier in the year with XPN’s Abdur Rahman. It’s an exploration of love and connections, it’s an exploration of the self and the spirit, and it’s set to slick performances by his bandmates — which include Funkitorium affiliates Chops on drums and The Jusman on bass, as well as Art taking the role of sideman on this show — and they collectively run the gamut from Motown (“My Life With You”) to Off The Wall-era Michael (“Tonight”) to gnarly disco-funk-soul (“Love Is Forever,” and a brand new song called “Sweat,” getting its debut here).
Watch Re-Mus’ Key Studio Sessions performance below, and for more, head to World Cafe Live this Saturday night, June 10th, where he’ll headline The Lounge at the venue to celebrate the release of the new project. Tickets and more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
