Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter Sug Daniels has released a new single titled “Take Your Time,” complete with a music video. The track came out on July 13th via Daniels’ own imprint Sweet Sug Productions, marking her third single to be released in 2023.
On “Take Your Time,” Daniels doesn’t want to hurry love, flirtatiously asking someone to stay around for a bit longer and get to know each other. The youthful excitement Daniels brings to the track is infectious and fun, which is complimented by the light, acoustic production. “Take Your Time” is a collaboration with touring musician Shane Palko and Philly-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Samuel Nobles. Palko, Nobles, and Daniels met up at the producer’s home studio to record the song, where Palko would provide the guitar part which the song is based on, along with the airy, falsetto chorus vocals. The song is filled out with piano, bass, soft percussion and some sparse saxophone-esque melodies. This is Daniel’s first new music video since her 2021 track “Heavy,” off of her Franklin Street EP.
The “Take Your Time” video was shot by WXPN’s own Paige Walter, while being written, directed, and edited by Daniels herself. Taking place at the Franklintown location of Bison Coffee, Daniels portrays an infatuated barista who ends up cutting out of work to spend time with her crush, leaving her fellow employee Palko to hold down the store as she frolics the city.
In February of 2022, Daniels was featured on World Cafe with the Black Opry Revue, performing “Heavy.” Daniels has also appeared at the XPoNential Music Festival twice now; first in 2021 with her Wilmington-based band Hoochi Coochi, and later in 2022 she would join Black Opry Revue at the festival. Daniels collaborated with fellow Philadelphia songwriter John Faye for the 2022 single “Lightning In A Bottle,” and kicked off 2023 with her Don Giovanni-released single “When I’m Gone.”
Daniels took part in organizing the local Sweet Juice Festival on July 22nd, which featured Shamir, American Trappist, and more. Along with her band Hoochi Coochi, Daniels will be performing for free in Wilmington, DE on July 27th as part of Gable Music Ventures’s Wilmington Alliance Monthly Summer Concert Series; details here.
