Homegrown Originals is back. Last year, we partnered with Dogfish Head to produce WXPN’s first-ever vinyl compilation of live recordings from local artists. It went so well, we’re teaming up with Dogfish Head again bringing you even more this year. More artists on the record, more copies of the record in more stores around the region, and in general, more Philly awesomeness.
Homegrown Originals Volume 2 gathers exclusive live recordings of Philadelphia-rooted artists taped for The Key Studio Sessions, WXPN’s weekly series spotlighting the music scene, as well as performances from our Free At Noon concert series, and one particularly memorable recording from the XPoNential Music Festival — Low Cut Connie playing “Are You Gonna Run?” to a revved-up crowd as Tropical Storm Ophelia swept across Wiggins Park.
The album showcases pop and R&B (Julia Pratt, Karlia), indie rock and punk (Gladie, Speedy Ortiz, Caring Less), indie folk and power pop (Greg Mendez, Hurry, Slaughter Beach, Dog) and classic singer-songwriter stylings (Moustapha Noumbissi). It’s an eclectic, unique snapshot of the scene, and we’re excited to present it to you.
Homegrown Originals Volume 2 is available as a free gift with purchase on Record Store Day — Saturday, April 20th, 2024 — at select independent record stores around the region. All of last year’s participating stores will carry the record again, in addition to an array of new stores in Central Pennsylvania, the Lehigh Valley, and New Jersey.
