WXPN’s Concert Picks: Mt. Joy, Fastball, Ted Leo, Dito van Reigersberg tribute, more

Friday: Mt. Joy at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion
Local stars Mt. Joy are hosting a hometown-ish gig to kick off the weekend (and autumn, sort of) across the river in Camden. We go way back with Mt. Joy, as they performed for us on three occasions the same year as their debut album. They’ll be supported by fellow beloved Philly band SNACKTIME, who just dropped a new single earlier this month.

Saturday: Haverford Music Festival in Havertown
The 14th Annual Haverford Music Festival is set for Saturday and will feature more than a dozen artists—with Shannon McNally, Wesley Stace, and Demolition String Band headlining—on two stages, all free of charge. Attendees will also find food trucks, a kids zone, and beer garden.

Sunday: Buzzcocks at Underground Arts
Punk progenitors Buzzcocks are set to rock Sunday night at Underground Arts celebrating the 50th anniversary of the UK legends. They’ll be joined by LA-based indie post-punk, new wave outfit Mind’s Eye.

Sunday: A Day Remembering Dito at Miller Theater
We couldn’t neglect a very special day that will honor the late, great performer Dito van Reigersberg. The Pig Iron Theater Company is hosting a celebration of life for van Reigersberg at 3 p.m., which will be followed by a tribute cabaret performance and concert at 7 p.m. If you can’t make it in person, free livestreams of both the celebration of life and performances will be available.

Monday: Phoebe Bridgers at Xfinity Mobile Arena
Phoebe Bridgers released her third album, Lost Weekend, just more than a month ago and is now out on a massive tour to support the record, which was met with high praise. She’ll be down in South Philly with Havertown’s own Alex G.

Tuesday: Fastball at Ardmore Music Hall
’90s alt pop rockers from Austin Fastball, whose biggest hit 1998’s “The Way” earned them two Grammy nods, are coming to the suburbs for a show with Philadelphia’s own Stargazer Lily.

Wednesday: Kirk Whalum at Highmark Mann
Memphis-based, Grammy Award-winning jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum will be on the Presser Foundation Stage in the TD Pavilion midweek for an installment of Highmark Mann’s Jazz Under the Stars series. He will be joined by his brother, vocalist Kevin Whalum, and the Gerald Veasley Band.

Thursday: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists at Ardmore Music Hall
Indie punk favorites Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are stopping through Ardmore late in the workweek for a show with local alt-country band Labrador. Leo and the band dropped their first new music in a while back in February on bandcamp.
