Who They Are: From the mind of visionary Merrill Gabus, Tune-yards is an experimental art pop band that derives its sound from looped layers of percussion, ukulele, vocals and other extraneous instruments from around the world. Their unorthodox sound has been used in commercials, TV shows, and movies, and has been recognized by the most illustrious of publications. Tune-yard’s rotating lineup features musicians of all different backgrounds, but the core of the group – which also features collaborator Nate Brenner – met as jazz performance students at Oberlin College.
