WXPN’s Concert Picks: Kingfish, Rhett Miller, Philly Folk Fest, Dungeon Crawl, more

Friday through Sunday: Philadelphia Folk Festival
One of the longest-running folk music festivals in the nation, the 63rd Philly Folk Fest is back this weekend in Upper Salford Township. WXPN favorites set to perform include Sug Daniels, The Tisburys, Tom Rush, Ben Arnold, and John Flynn, in addition to the dozens of other artists.

Saturday: Yard Act at Underground Arts
UK post-punk rockers Yard Act will perform at Underground Arts Saturday night with The Armed as they celebrate their latest album, You’re Gonna Need a Little Music. This show is the perfect opportunity to see the band play if you can’t catch them at Free At Noon the Friday before.

Sunday: Christone “Kingfish” Ingram at Concerts Under the Stars
The 27-year-old blues guitar prodigy is playing up on the Main Line for the ongoing Concerts Under the Stars series in Bryn Mawr. We at WXPN and Kingfish have an ongoing relationship: he performed at Free At Noon, XPoNential Festival, and for World Cafe twice, and shouted out one of his most influential inspirations for The Key.

Monday: Max McNown at The Fillmore
Country-Americana-folk rock superstar Max McNown will is bringing his “Summer Vacation Tour” to the Fillmore to kick off the week ahead of his third studio album, Leave On a Light, due out Sept. 25. He will be supported by bluegrass-rock-country outfit The Jack Wharff Band.

Tuesday: Rhett Miller at Eagleview Town Center
Another WXPN favorite is performing out in the ‘burbs. Rhett Miller, former lead singer of The Old 97’s, is playing free of charge out in Exton with Philly’s own The MAKs. Check out Miller’s solosWorld Cafe performance here.

Wednesday: Sadie Gust at Haddon Lake Park
What do you know: a WXPN artist is performing free in a Philly suburb! Our 2025 24 Hour Song Challenge winner Sadie Gust is playing the Haddon Lake Park Sundown Music Series at McLaughlin-Norcross Memorial Dell.

Thursday: Jonathan Colman’s Dungeon Crawl at Spruce Street Harbor
Philly bassist Jonathan Colman‘s monthly improv jam series at Silk City is back again, but at Spruce Street Harbor. For this iteration, he’s got Eli Winderman of Dopapod and WCK Trio on keys, Mike Greenfield of Lotus on drums, and Jake Brightman and Crickets & Cicadas on guitar. Jezzeeli will perform an opening set, while Bad Leather will play a closing set.
