Every Sunday night, Y-Rock On XPN’s John Vettese brings a Philly band into the depths of the WXPN studios for an in-house interview and recording session. The upcoming Philadelphia Film And Music Festival has us pretty excited for a long weekend of live music, so we decided this week’s Key Studio Session would feature one of the F/M headliners: local punk legends The Dead Milkmen.
Recorded in March, this set with Rodney, Joe, Dean, and Dan showcases some old gems, such as “50 Things,” “The Woman Who Is Also A Mongoose,” and “The Thing That Only Eats Hippies.” But it also premiers a block of brand-new songs the Milkmen have cooked up since reuniting in 2004 to pay tribute to their late original bassist Dave Blood. We’re partial to “Meaningless Upbeat Happy Song,” a classic, toe-tapping Rodney Anonymous tirade. (Get the full set after the jump.) Download, listen, pass along—and be sure to catch The Dead Milkmen during F/M Fest with Black Landlord on Friday, September 24th, at World Café Live; tickets to the all-ages show are $28. —John Vettese
