The Key Studio Sessions: Creepoid
Back in January, Philadelphia’s Creepoid spent a cold, late night in the WXPN studios, thrashing out incredible performances of five songs from their just-about-to-be-released debut full-length Horse Heaven. Drummer Pat Troxell had sent me the album days before, and I’d been listening nonstop; this was, I decided, already one of the best records of 2011. Loyal readers of The Key can probably tell the rest of story from there—the band went on to play a smashing, sold-out album release show at Kung Fu Necktie on January. 13, shoot a haunting music video for “Graveblanket” (that evoked The X-Files, David Lynch, and nightmares), and lead a caravan of fellow Philly artists to Austin for a mass showcase at the South By Southwest festival (sponsored by The Key, WXPN, and Yvynyl). With Creepoid back from tour and opening for The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, we thought this an ideal time to revisit that roaring, rumbling, magic night before it all started. Check the nine-minute version of “Enabler” and welcome them home at tomorrow night at the First Unitarian Church.
