New video from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart (performing tonight at First Unitarian Church)
If you’ve ever had the misfortune of stepping inside a Guitar Center, you probably understand where the band is coming from:
In the video, we play a rag-tag group of employees who work at a fictional store called Guitar Galaxy whose only real joy in life is to get to work early and “jam” before our bully of a manager comes into work. I always wanted to make a music video that took place in a Guitar Center or a Sam Ash, just based on my experiences I had there when I was younger. When it was time to get my first guitar and amp, I felt really intimidated by the dude trying to help me, who took every possible opportunity he could to point out that I couldn’t really play and didn’t deserve to own any of the guitars in the store. My own version of retribution is making a music video about a group of kids in a band who take over a music store and end up performing gloriously on all the instruments lying around the store.
The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart perform with Twin Shadow and Creepoid at 8 p.m. at First Unitarian Church; tickets to the all-ages show are $13.
